This is a very nice, complete 10-page example of the Monday 26 July 1943 edition of the
Los Angeles Examiner
, measuring 16-½ x 21-⅝ inches. This “War Extra” edition covers the end of Benito Mussolini in Italy. It has articles and many photos about Mussolini’s “Rise and Fall”, Il Duce with Adolf Hitler, and successor Pietro Badoglio.
Other articles cover the Allies in Sicily, the “greatest air raid in history” hits Hamburg, and that the British believed Mussolini’s ouster was ordered by Hitler.
Other stories describe the modern Mexican Army in glowing terms and actress Deanna Durbin being presented with the sword of a dead Japanese General. Lana Turner’s new baby was announced as was the marriage of actress Greer Garson with Navy Ensign Richard Ney.
The 78 year old newspaper also has a huge ad for Coca Cola and the announcement that Jimmy Dorsey would start a series of concerts at the Hollywood Palladium on Sunset Boulevard on 27 July 1943.
